FAQs

What types of clients do you work with?

While I work with a wide variety of people, my clients tend to be professionals in the tech and medical fields, as well as other therapists and healers.

Amongst professionals, many of my clients are in healthcare (physicians, surgeons, administrators), in tech, and/or leadership roles.

I have a developing expertise in ADHD, especially for high-achieving individuals who are feeling overwhelmed or burned out.

Often, my clients have overcome difficult backgrounds and have made a good life for themselves. And yet, they still may be dealing with symptoms of anxiety, depression, or just a general discontent with life.

They may have had therapy in the past and may even understand quite a bit about themselves, but are having a hard time getting to what’s presently keeping them stuck.

I work to be culturally competent in my work with clients and am BIPOC and LGBTQ+ friendly.

What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?

All therapy involves some coaching. Coaching is more focused on what you want to achieve and planning the steps you’ll take to get there.

Therapy helps to get to those sometimes stubborn places within you that keep you from actually taking those steps. Sometimes this involves acknowledging past stories that contribute to the current blocks. The goal of therapy is to release the hold that those stories have on you so that you experience more choice in your life.

If you wish to work with me from a distance, outside of Washington State, our work together will be limited to IFS-infused coaching. If you require the deeper work of counseling, I recommend you find a licensed counselor in your area.

How frequently will we meet and how long will we work together?

I provide incisive guidance, “block-clearing, “ and long-term support and maintenance. I recommend weekly sessions to start. Clients and I work together to find a cadence that meets their needs after that. Sometimes, only three to five sessions do the trick. In other cases, our work together lasts for a period of months. Everyone is different as far as this goes.

Do you accept insurance?

For all insurances, I am considered an “out-of-network” provider.

Please call your insurance provider to ask if you have out-of-network coverage for outpatient mental health treatment and how much is covered. In this case, you will pay me for my services, and I will provide you with an insurance-ready statement (a “Superbill”) for you to request reimbursement.

Keep in mind that not all insurance companies believe that counseling is necessary or reimbursable if you aren’t in crisis or don’t have a serious mental illness.

Do you see clients in person?

My practice is fully virtual now. Since pivoting to online sessions during the pandemic, I have found that my clients and I can do deep and meaningful work together virtually.

What is your rate? Do you offer a sliding scale fee?

My practice rate is $310 per 60-minute session. I maintain a few reduced-fee slots per week, but do not offer this to new clients.

How do we get started?

I invite you to access my online calendar to set up a complimentary 20-minute virtual consultation via Zoom. Email: katie@katiegurwell.com Phone: 206.558.6218.
